Your Life on Earth:
Philosophizing and Place in the #21C
Reflection:
In this project, we were answering the main question: What is the purpose of (your/human) existence? Through numerous poems, articles, including John Krakauer book Into the Wild, watch movies such as Harold and Maude and Stranger than Fiction. All of which are asking the same very question: What is the meaning of life? For me personally, I chose to look deeper into the topic of Happiness and Meaning. We can see that both in life and in books and movies that we all have passions. But in today's age, we are lead to doubt our passions based on what the people say around us. How can we even begin to find happiness and meaning, when we constantly listen to what others say/think? I wanted to lean my project toward that very question on what makes you happy? For my project, I wrote a poem and made a short animation that explained my personal philosophy. Personally, one of my great passions in life is art. I love all types of art. So, I decided to break out of my comfort zone and create an animation. It was something that I have never tried before. The overall goal of my project was to send the message of working through the judgment and doubt that others give you. That in the end you'll make something beautiful and find happiness.
I gained many new insights over the course of the project, I managed to find more information on the essential questions. More specifically how do you characterize your relationship with earth/place/ resources? Even though I didn't dive deeper into this topic, I managed to gain a new perspective from it. Through the reading of Into the Wild, seeing Chris McCandless's relationship with nature. There were numerous amounts of sentences throughout the book that stuck out to me. His perspective on his meaning of happiness after his whole journey. If you were to ask me questions about what is the meaning of life? how do you characterize your relationship with the earth/place/resources? I wouldn't be able to give you a straight answer. However now, I would tell you several perspectives that I managed to gain through a number of book, articles, and movies. That helped me gain new knowledge.
Furthermore, I would like to live in my personal philosophy. If I did this project a few years ago, I feel like it would have helped and made me come to a realization. This project opened my mind to different philosophies that many people live by. I want to explore more with a fresh pair of eyes and learn from or gain a new experience.
