To what extent did I choose an issue that I genuinely care about?
When it came down to choosing a topic, I thought back to that Throughline podcast. On how Venezuela was facing an economic crisis. I wanted to follow along those lines and found corruption and human rights. These articles on violations existing in every part of the world, affecting the health and socio-economic status of an individual. I wanted to research more about the corruption and violations of human rights and how I can address a powerful message in the art community.
How does my proposal align with my own strengths, interests, especially in light of what I’m thinking about doing for my action project for Senior Project?
My proposal aligns with my own strengths and interests. I recently read an article on art in a political realm and immediately sparked an interest. How different artists around the world can bring such a meaningful message in such a powerful way that makes you stop and think. I felt inspired to create an art piece that carries a message that makes people amazed. having connections to art and it's importance in areas such as politics. I want my action project to have a connection to the areas I'm interested in.
What did I learn from this process that will help me with my senior project?
This process has helped me improve and become more organized in my research skills. Being more aware of what you’re looking for by forming questions, developing a better note-taking style that makes it easier for my understanding made this process more engaging. Not only reading article after article but using other resources like a podcast, videos, and academic journals helped me form more connections and sources that helped with my understanding.
What was the most valuable/informative/interesting part of this assignment?
The most valuable and informative part was the research aspect. I learned more about how art can be more valuable and represent current world events in a compelling way. I learned about current world events of human right violations and how that effect that specific group of individuals and how often these violations go unnoticed in the public eye, such as health. “ A fight against corruption is a fight for human rights, social justice, democracy, and equality”
What could it be one thing I could have done to improve this project the most?
Something I could have done was researching more about if the United States and our neighboring countries were facing corruption and human rights. I picked my research articles on places that were known for violations of their human rights. Then look at the difference. Or even the areas on different violations, I only focused on the health and abuse of human rights. If I looked at different areas such as economic, gender or race I could have found more research.
