Socialization and Mask Project:
In this project we learned about socialization and how it affects the people around us. Socialization is a lifelong process that inherits norms and values providing each individual with skills and habits necessary within their own society. A big part of socialization is the stereotypical categories each of us go through, this process examples of these categories are gender, race, age, ability/disability, sexual orientation, economic class and religion. After exploring and learning about these different categories we read an article called "Cycle of Socialization". In the article it stated that the cycle of socialization is made is made up of seven different stages: the beginning, then first socialization, cultural and institutional, enforcements, results, actions/directions for change. We then started making mask which is when we got to design a mask that's shows how we have been socialized. The final project was the exhibition. We got together in groups and collaborated in making a maze that describes the cycle. In the end the people who went to the exhibition parents, teachers and student got a glimpse into the cycle of socialization.
Project Reflection
Explain how you grew as a writer in this project. Be specific, go back through your essay to find evidence.
In this project I would say that I didn’t find much growth. Looking back in my essay I find a lot of errors and areas of improvement. The essay “Socializing Gender”could be an essay worth sharing and being proud of but in this essay I saw many areas I wish I could go back and refine. For instants I felt that most of my paragraphs weren't related to the topic of my story like in paragraph 3 my topic wasn't about me being socialized it was off topic. Looking back I wish my vocabulary could be more accurate.
What were your goals as a group workers and what challenges/success did you have reaching your goals? Make sure to include an example or story that highlights our response.
My goals as a group member were challenged and faced, which lead to this exhibition being successful. In the beginning I was quiet and a bit confused. The situation was that I that I didn't what to speak but for the exhibition crew you had to go to other groups and ask them what they need for this exhibition to be more successful. I overcame a lot of my challenges by my goals. The objective of my goal was to put in effort and cooperate and learn from the exhibition.
What are your largest takeaways from this project from this project and how have they transformed the way you see the world? This could be from any part of the project: the content, the essay and the mask, design thinking process, or the exhibition prep.
My biggest takeaway from this project would be that i realized that there are still bad thing happening in this generation due to stereotyping like how they are listed on my mask. During the note taking and watching videos i began to realize what i never thought was happening in the world. If we takeaway stereotyping and labels there wouldn't be a lot of issues .
